FVDM Architects

Finlayson van der Merwe (FVDM) Architects is a practice based in Hermanus, South Africa and pools the talents of experienced architect Andrew Finlayson and Jaco van der Merwe. “We believe that a building should be functional, and that simplicity and honest use of materials is the key to good design”. FVDM Architects offers the full range of architectural services.

“We share experience working on architectural projects ranging from shopping centers, film studios and wineries to private houses and residential developments,” says architect Andrew Finlayson.

“Our design philosophy starts with defining what is most appropriate on each site and extends to detailing every aspect of a building. We design ethically, and we value doing business in an open and honest manner. We pride ourselves on being sustainable architects, carefully selecting our materials to ensure minimal negative impact on the environment. We have a passion for the environment and the people of the Western Cape and cherish our part in shaping it.”

Our portfolio includes commercial projects like retail outlets, shopping centres, film studios and wineries. We have extensive experience in designing and managing private residential projects and residential developments.

FVDM uses Building Information Modelling (BIM) software to design and detail all architectural projects. Buildings are well resolved and clients can see exactly what a building looks like from the concept stage through to refining the small details.
